Ten Essentials for a Road Trip Along the Pacific Highway

Whether you're heading up to Byron or down towards Sydney, here's what seasoned NSW road-trippers never leave home without.

Travellers relaxing around a rooftop hostel pool at sunset with the Bangkok skyline behind them

Our rooftop pool party is one of the best nights at the hostel, and the latest one did not disappoint. As the sun went down over the city, guests from all over the world came together for music, games and plenty of laughter.

How the night unfolded

The evening began at sunset, when the rooftop filled with guests holding welcome drinks and swapping stories from the day. Travellers who had only just arrived met others who were heading off the next morning, and by the time the music started, the whole rooftop felt like one big group.

Highlights of the night

Music

A local DJ played a mix of chill beats and upbeat tracks as the sky turned orange and pink.

Pool time

Guests cooled off, floated and relaxed with the city lights glowing in the background.

Games

Friendly rounds of beer pong and card games gave everyone a reason to talk to new people.

Food and drinks

Snacks and drinks kept the mood easy and social.

Why it works

Staying in a hostel is about more than a bed. Events like this make it easy to meet other travellers, find people to explore the city with and turn a quick stopover into a story you will remember.

Want to join next time?

Ask at the front desk about the next date, and bring a swimsuit and a towel. You do not need to know anyone, and solo travellers are always welcome. Many friendships here started with a simple "Where are you from?" on the rooftop.
